Nineteen of the Russian's 21 victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has endured a difficult year, managing just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the American major.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in specific - caused him falling of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-term mentor Cervara.

Currently working with Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually improved in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

It is Medvedev's initial title after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard court from spring of that year.

Success also signifies he has secured 21 victories at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my children simultaneously, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," commented ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six finals, featuring in Halle previously this season.

His counter-punching play style and recurring outbursts on court had caused commentators to doubt if his ability to compete at the elite level was finished.

Yet the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and perform assertively, supported by an enhanced service.

He fought back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, securing 4 of the last five games to take the lead.

Both players exchanged breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial professional title, gained dominance to create a decider.

He rescued 4 initial opportunities in a tight third set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched victory with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman failing to control a return after a lengthy match.
